Data Centre Shift Engineer – Electrical Bias

Overview

As a Data Centre Electrical Engineer at Mitie, you will oversee the safe, efficient operation of critical systems onsite. You’ll lead maintenance activities and mentor the engineering team to uphold high workmanship standards. You’ll ensure compliance with health and safety, regulations, and client expectations while coordinating with contractors and internal teams. Responsibilities

• Allocate tasks and monitor performance to maintain high workmanship standards
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering team members
• Maintain all critical systems (electrical, HVAC, fire suppression, BMS, etc.) to high standards
• Oversee planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive works
• Accurately log and document all engineering activities
• Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, Health & Safety, and company policies
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure consistent service delivery

Key requirements

• Recognised engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent)
• Proven experience supervising engineering teams within critical environments (data centres, hospitals, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of building services systems (electrical, mechanical, HVAC)
• Experience using CMMS systems and BMS platforms
• IOSH/NEBOSH certification (desirable)
