Specialist Mental Health Law Practitioner

Overview

In this role you will provide expert guidance on mental health law across NSFT in Norfolk, supporting clinical staff and senior leadership. You will help ensure statutory obligations are met and contribute to upcoming MHA changes, working closely with colleagues in Suffolk for consistency. The role combines hands-on legal support with strategic leadership, and focuses on safeguarding vulnerable individuals while navigating complex health and social care environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert advice on Mental Health legislation to clinical staff and Associate Hospital Managers
• Support management of Mental Health Law Administration related to clinical practice
• Contribute to strategic leadership on mental health law matters within the Trust
• Provide cover for the Suffolk counterpart and ensure consistency across the Trust on joint projects
• Assist with meeting statutory obligations and forthcoming MHA changes
• Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-site teams across Norfolk and Suffolk

Key requirements

• First degree in Nursing or Health/Social Care related profession or equivalent experience
• Masters level or equivalent relevant experience or PG Certificate Mental Health Law
• Detailed knowledge of Mental Health Act 1983 and Mental Capacity Act 2005 and other relevant mental health law
• Experience working within a complex health or social care organisation
• Ability to travel to all Trust locations within Norfolk and Suffolk
• Excellent time management and ability to take an organisation wide perspective
