Head of Faculty – Art, Design Technology and Vocational

Overview

In this leadership role you guide Art, Design Technology and Vocational faculties to deliver a high-quality, knowledge-rich education. You will line-manage subject leads, shape curriculum and assessment, and drive strategies to close achievement gaps. You’ll teach at times, uphold strong behavior standards, and foster an inclusive learning environment. The role sits within Lift Schools’ collaborative, change-driven culture and offers influence across a trust-wide transformation agenda.

Responsibilities

• Line manage subject leads and teachers, with appraisal, training, and clear performance standards
• Design and align an ambitious, sequenced curriculum with the National Curriculum and Trust priorities
• Analyze student progress data, design interventions, and monitor exam predictions to close gaps
• Lead initiatives to close achievement gaps for disadvantaged students and improve literacy (secure readers)
• Plan and deliver high-challenge classroom lessons with effective feedback and targeted re-teaching
• Establish consistent behavior standards and an inclusive learning environment
• Collaborate with SENDCo, support staff, and parents to support achievement and well-being
• Manage faculty budgets and resources, and maintain accurate MIS records

Key requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Degree (or vocational equivalent) in a relevant subject
• Proven leadership experience as Head of Department or similar
• Experience designing and evaluating rigorous schemes of work
• Data-driven mindset with experience using assessment data to plan interventions
• Recent UK school teaching and leadership experience (last 2 years)
• Strong communication and emotional intelligence
