Natural Environment Director

Overview

In this strategic, senior role you lead the Natural Environment Division to protect and enhance London’s green assets. You will shape long-term strategies, fund raising and governance across eight open-space charities, working within the Environment Department’s Senior Leadership Team. You will drive conservation, biodiversity and climate action, improve visitor experience, and build influential partnerships with government, charities and communities. This is a role that combines strategic foresight with change leadership to safeguard assets for future generations.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership to the Natural Environment Division
• Oversee management and transformation of eight open-space charities
• Develop sustainable long-term funding model
• Ensure natural assets thrive for future generations
• Champion conservation and biodiversity
• Contribute to Climate Action Strategy delivery
• Enhance visitor experience
• Build influential partnerships with government, charities, communities and external stakeholders
• Lead complex organisations through change, develop strategy, manage budgets
• Foster relations with boards, trustees, elected Members and external stakeholders

Key requirements

• Experience across environmental, conservation, parks, leisure, charitable, voluntary or wider public sectors
• Understanding of charity governance and income generation
• Proven track record of leading complex organisations through change
• Experience in strategy development and significant budget management
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with boards, trustees, elected Members and external stakeholders
