Lead Engineer – Design & Delivery (Offshore Wind)

Overview

In this Lead Engineer role, you will shape the engineering strategy for a high-value offshore wind project, guiding multi-disciplinary teams from development through delivery milestones. You will align technical decisions with commercial goals, risk, and constructability, coordinating with project, commercial, and delivery functions. The position offers impact on SSE’s offshore wind portfolio and its mission to provide clean, affordable energy. You will report progress to senior stakeholders and influence investment decisions. This is a high-visibility role at the heart of a multi-billion-pound programme.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of the project’s engineering strategy, design basis and programme
• Build, lead and coordinate a high-performing multidisciplinary design team
• Act as the accountable lead for engineering design development and manage interfaces across functions
• Oversee engineering consultants and third-party organisations to ensure high-quality outputs
• Provide clear reporting to senior stakeholders on progress, risks, opportunities and decisions

Key requirements

• Significant experience leading design development of large-scale, high-value energy or infrastructure projects (preferably offshore wind)
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams in direct and matrix structures
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to influence at all levels
• Excellent planning and organisational capabilities with track record of delivering high-quality outputs on tight timescales
• Understanding of commercial drivers and ability to balance technical excellence with cost, risk and delivery considerations
