Overview
In this role you drive the sales and business development function for an established structural steel business. You’ll build and nurture client relationships across the UK construction market, converting opportunities into secured projects in collaboration with estimating and operations. You lead the sales team, shape strategy, and influence project pipelines while working closely with cross-functional partners. This is a hands-on, client-facing leadership role in an employee-owned company with a strong reputation and growth plans.

Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Sales function and strategy
- Identify new business opportunities across structural steel and construction
- Manage key client accounts and build long-term relationships with stakeholders
- Collaborate with estimating and operations to convert enquiries into tenders and projects
- Present capabilities and technical offering to clients; participate in pre/post tender discussions
- Negotiate commercial terms with clients and key stakeholders
- Monitor market activity, tenders, and future project pipelines
- Coach and develop the sales team; report pipeline and forecasts to leadership
- Identify opportunities for repeat business and increased market share
- Align with wider commercial strategy and supply-chain partners
Key requirements
- Proven sales or business development experience in structural steel or construction
- Strong knowledge of the UK construction market
- Existing relationships with principal contractors, developers, consultants or engineers
- Understanding of structural steelwork and construction processes
- Ability to read technical drawings and specifications
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
- Experience managing key client accounts and sales pipelines
- Excellent written and verbal communication; proactive and independent work style
- Team leadership or line management experience
- Competent in Microsoft Office; Tekla experience advantageous
