Software and Controls Engineer

Overview

In this day-based role at Bolton Bakery, you will maintain and enhance software, hardware and control systems to boost plant performance. You’ll lead continuous improvement projects, cut downtime, and support root-cause investigations across three processing plants. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to safety initiatives, and help drive a reliability-focused maintenance culture. Responsibilities

• Maintain and update software, hardware, and control systems
• Identify and deliver continuous improvement projects to increase efficiency and reduce downtime
• Lead/root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence
• Support safety initiatives and ensure compliance with health and safety standards
• Contribute to reliability-centered maintenance and cross-functional continuous improvement
• Coach and train engineers in PLC/control systems to build capability
• Manage supplier contracts and review supplier performance
• Contribute to capital projects and site revenue/capital budgeting

Key requirements

• Experience with fault finding and maintaining PLC-based control systems
• Experience with Allen Bradley (Rockwell) platforms (RSLogix500, Logix5000)
• Ladder logic programming experience
• Knowledge of communication protocols and networks
• Strong electrical knowledge and control systems understanding
• Project management experience
• Awareness of functional safety
• Right to work in the UK
• Stable track record of improving plant performance
