Associate Project Manager (Higher Education, Healthcare, Defence Construction)

Overview

In this Associate Project Manager role, you lead project management activities on medium to large projects within a consultancy or client environment, often in life sciences, education, or defence sectors. You act as a bridge between the client, design teams, and construction phases, ensuring timely, on-budget delivery and risk-aware decisions. You mentor team members, manage interfaces with clients, and uphold quality across the project lifecycle. Responsibilities

• Lead Project Management Commissions and ensure their successful delivery
• Provide line management and mentoring to team members, ensuring training is up-to-date
• Chair internal project team meetings and coordinate outputs to meet time-scales and quality standards
• Manage delivery of project management outputs and maintain meticulous records
• Collaborate with design and construction teams to mitigate risks and avoid disputes
• Coordinate sign-off of management information produced by project teams
• Develop strong client relationships and cross-functional teamwork
• Oversee design management and tender documents for large complex projects
• Formulate and manage construction contracts on large projects
• Progress business development with existing and new clients, including cross-selling
• Support wining clients with high-quality outputs and professional conduct
• Manage project finances, resourcing, audits, and fee proposals
• Support colleagues through professional chartership and recruitment/retention activities
• Ensure relevant training is completed
• Promote innovation and represent AECOM in a positive client-facing role

Key requirements

• Professional Qualified in PM/Construction/Engineering/Quantity Surveying (ideally)
• Chartered status with RICS, CIOB, RIBA, ICE or equivalent
• Experience in a consultancy environment
• Strong understanding of construction roles and lifecycle changes
• Proven experience in Healthcare, Life Science, Education or Defence sectors
• Excellent understanding of construction contracts
• Knowledge of CDM 2015 and statutory compliance
