Senior Software Engineer

Overview

In this role you will contribute to the development of marine-based software systems, working within cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable software for unmanned and manned platforms. You will collaborate with end users to refine requirements and drive improvements, shaping software that supports complex naval capabilities. The position sits at TKMS ATLAS UK’s Winfrith HQ, with regular on-site presence and opportunities to lead development efforts. You will help advance autonomous marine technologies and user‑facing interfaces in a mission‑critical context.

Responsibilities

• Support software delivery across the lifecycle
• Develop Java-based solutions for marine and autonomous systems
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and stakeholders
• Engage with end users to identify improvements and requirements
• Take ownership of work packages and lead development activities
• Represent the company in cross‑party workshops
• Contribute to user interface and JavaFX work as applicable
• Work on unmanned/autonomous marine systems and related product updates

Key requirements

• Proven ability to support software delivery
• Degree or equivalent in software engineering or related discipline
• Understanding of autonomous systems and their architectures
• Understanding of military and marine domain software development
• Knowledge of software engineering lifecycle, processes, and project management integration
• Experience with software engineering processes and tools
• Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams across the lifecycle
• Ability to work closely with end users to understand usage and drive improvements
• Java development experience
• Java build systems (e.g. Maven)
• ISO 9001 knowledge
• Atlassian toolset experience
