Mechanical Field Engineer

Overview

As NNB Surveillance Field Engineer on the Hinkley Point C project, you ensure construction activities meet the Contractor’s Work Information and quality standards. You work within a surveillance team to support KPI delivery, identify quality issues early, and keep works safe and compliant through formal QA processes. You collaborate with stakeholders to prevent non-conformances and help maintain progress on a high-profile, large-scale nuclear installation. This role offers impact by upholding safety, quality, and contract adherence on a nationally significant project.

Responsibilities

• Verify construction work aligns with the Contractor’s Work Information
• Raise and support non-conformance processes to issue NCRs
• Communicate proactively with stakeholders and keep surveillance timely reported
• Contribute surveillance data to KPI indicators
• Identify potential quality issues early and mitigate
• Support team instructions to maintain safety and quality; take appropriate actions to prevent halts
• Ensure design decisions follow formal Quality processes, not field-only judgments
• Provide insights to improve current and future site activities
• Develop tasks to quality standards in line with HSE requirements
• Maintain understanding of contractual technical requirements, drawings, QCPs and QIRs
• Monitor and ensure Quality Inspection Records are completed before works are covered
• Review contractor performance against the Quality Control Plan

Key requirements

• Mechanical Engineering qualification (or equivalent)
• Experience with pipework installation, pumps, tanks and rotating equipment
• Broad knowledge of materials, trades methods and legal requirements
• Broad knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Assurance
• Excellent organisation and communication skills
• Ability to work in a high-performing team
• Proven diary-writing skills (accurate, concise)
• Attention to detail in checks of work, equipment and materials
• Ability to establish working relationships with contractors
• Persuasive and diplomatic while remaining independent
• Experience installing/erecting large mechanical equipment (including piping)
• Proven track record in large construction teams
• Understanding of CDM Regulations and document/drawing approvals processes
• Strong English communication; French knowledge advantageous
• Experience using electronic handheld devices to capture information
