Senior Data Scientist

Overview

As a Senior Data Scientist in Mastercard’s Financial Crime Solutions team, you will develop, deploy, and support ML solutions to prevent financial crime in the global payments ecosystem. You’ll focus on Account-to-Account fraud, scams, and mule detection, helping institutions identify advanced risks. You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver measurable value, improve detection, and evolve models with changing fraud patterns. This role offers the opportunity to shape strategies and deploy scalable data-driven solutions in production.

Responsibilities

• Configure, validate, and deploy ML models for customers worldwide
• Conduct Proof-of-Value exercises to demonstrate model performance and business impact
• Research, develop, and evaluate fraud, scam, and mule detection solutions
• Support and improve production models as fraud patterns evolve
• Collaborate with Product, Customer Delivery, and Data Science teams to enhance solutions
• Analyze complex datasets to improve detection performance and outcomes
• Foster a culture of learning, continuous improvement, and practical problem solving

Key requirements

• Experience developing, evaluating, and deploying ML models in a commercial environment
• Strong proficiency in Python for data science and ML
• Experience with structured and large-scale datasets
• Ability to apply scientific thinking and analytical approaches to complex problems
• Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences
• Curiosity, willingness to challenge assumptions, and continuous improvement
