Overview

In this Senior Interaction Designer role, you will shape accessible, user-centred services for HMCTS across multiple courts and tribunals. You’ll grow design culture, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with researchers, product owners and frontline staff to solve complex user problems. You’ll lead end-to-end design concepts, prototyping, and ensure inclusivity and accessibility across services. This is a mission-driven opportunity to redesign justice services with a strong emphasis on user needs and cross-functional impact.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design concepts with service managers and product owners
  • Take responsibility for design across complex services
  • Set direction and promote good design practice within teams
  • Make decisions informed by research and its business impact
  • Analyze user needs and business objectives in complex areas
  • Lead on end-to-end design concepts and reimagine service delivery
  • Ensure accessibility and inclusivity in all designs
  • Lead design workshops and design sprints with stakeholders and users
  • Rapidly prototype and test with users
  • Coordinate across projects to maintain consistency between products/services
  • Collaborate with technical roles to address feasibility and outcomes-led design
  • Develop and maintain design standards and a pattern library
  • Train, mentor and line-manage designers
  • Grow and advance the Design Community of Practice, including recruitment and onboarding
  • Contribute to shaping the design team structure and growth
  • Lead on cross-team design consistency and governance

Key requirements

  • Proven track record in designing and developing prototypes across fidelity levels
  • Experience working in fast-paced Agile teams
  • Strong ability to diagnose issues quickly with expert application
  • Knowledge of agile methods and user-centred design
  • Ability to work autonomously with stakeholders (judges, leaders, managers) to advocate user-centred design
  • Excellent presentation skills for prototypes and deliverables to business leads
