Deputy Practice Manager

Overview

In this role you will support the Practice Manager and Operations Manager to run the practice and drive quality care for about 16,000 patients. You will lead and develop staff, handle complaints, and help implement governance, IT, and data initiatives. The position sits at the heart of a collaborative, NHS-aligned team within a growing PCN network. You’ll work on improving processes, training, and ensuring compliance to standards while shaping a positive, professional practice culture. This is an opportunity to influence day-to-day operations and patient experience in a dynamic primary care setting.

Responsibilities

• Support the Practice Manager and Operations Manager in daily operations
• Provide leadership and staff development
• Manage patient complaints and investigations
• Coordinate staff leave, cover and locums
• Assist in achieving QOF targets and organizing events
• Submit monthly CQRS claims and ensure payments
• Ensure compliance with CQC standards and NHS requirements
• Maintain training records and organise mandatory training
• Assist in recruitment and onboarding including DBS checks
• Set up new staff in IT systems and manage IT-related support
• Maintain practice policies and governance
• Attend and minute Practice and MDT meetings
• Coordinate GP registrar and medical student placements
• Organise vaccination clinics (flu and Covid)
• Be the Freedom to Speak Up Guardian

Key requirements

• Experience in General Practice/Primary Care
• People management experience
• Strong IT skills and experience in an IT environment
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of employment law and HR processes
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
• Experience with workload management and resource planning
• Experience with governance and quality standards (CQC/NHS)
