Area Manager

Overview

In this role, you will support the Parks & Countryside Service to ensure every city area has access to safe, welcoming, high-quality parks and green spaces. You will lead operational efforts as part of a broader biodiversity and green-space improvement programme, helping to shape the city’s outdoor spaces and community wellbeing. You will work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to respond to local needs and drive impactful upgrades. This is an opportunity to influence urban green space strategy while managing resources and staff in a dynamic public-service environment.

Responsibilities

• Support the service in delivering access to high-quality parks and green spaces across the city
• Manage staff and contractors to deliver maintenance and improvements
• Engage with councillors, stakeholders, volunteers, residents, and fundraisers
• Manage budgets and resources to align with priorities
• Develop Sheffield’s parks and green spaces and respond to local needs
• Work with cross-functional teams to deliver biodiversity and improvement projects

Key requirements

• Background in operational management, horticulture, grounds maintenance or a similar field
• Experience or passion for green space management
• Ability to work unsupervised and drive results
• Experience managing staff and contractors
• Excellent communications skills to engage diverse groups
