Consultant in Liaison Psychiatry – Exeter

Overview

In this role, you will lead a multidisciplinary liaison psychiatry team within a 24/7 core service, shaping clinical care for hospital inpatients and ED patients. You’ll collaborate across services to improve pathways and contribute to strategic NHS plans for integrated care. You will have opportunities to supervise, teach, and pursue clinical research in partnership with the university and R&D teams. The position combines leadership, service development, and academic activity in a supportive Trust culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team to deliver service improvements and governance initiatives
• Provide supervision and contribute to teaching/training of medical staff and students
• Engage in research and national trials through the University of Exeter and Wonford House R&D team

Key requirements

• Full GMC registration
• Approved Clinician status at start
• Eligible for Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at interview
• Approval under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
• Experience in multidisciplinary mental health teams and acute inpatient settings
• Experience with audit and clinical governance
• Strong communication and leadership skills
