Senior Civil Engineer (Nuclear)

Overview

In this Civil Nuclear role, you support the full nuclear lifecycle, contributing to UK programmes from new build and SMR/AMR technologies to decommissioning and waste management. You work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver infrastructure and ensure high-quality civil designs across asset lifecycles. You collaborate with clients and partners, mentor early-career engineers, and help advance WSP’s nuclear capability. Responsibilities

• Deliver civil engineering designs across the nuclear asset lifecycle, including new build, operations, maintenance, life extension and decommissioning
• Develop site development, roads and access infrastructure, drainage, earthworks, utilities and reinforced concrete/steel structures
• Own defined civil work packages ensuring high-quality outputs
• Conduct feasibility studies, optioneering, site assessments and concept design
• Coordinate with structural, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical and process teams
• Prepare and review calculations, specifications, reports, risk assessments and HSE documentation
• Support design coordination, programme management, resource planning and delivery within budgets/timescales
• Apply relevant standards and quality requirements in regulated environments
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve technical challenges
• Mentor graduates and early career engineers; contribute to knowledge sharing and capability development

Key requirements

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline
• Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE) or working towards chartership
• Experience delivering civil projects across the nuclear asset lifecycle including SMRs/AMRs
• Experience in civil design for site development, earthworks, drainage, highways, utilities and reinforced concrete structures
• Good understanding of design codes and standards including British Standards, Eurocodes and nuclear standards
• Experience with feasibility studies, optioneering, concept and detailed design
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and coordinate interfaces
• Knowledge of design risk management, CDM regulations and health and safety
• Strong technical report writing, analytical and problem-solving skills
