Bank Trust Doctor (eqv to ST3+) in Emergency Services

Overview

In this Bank ED role you support high-quality emergency care at Whipps Cross, a busy district hospital. You work within the ED team across RAT, Resuscitation, Majors, Minors and Paediatrics, while aligning with consultants and nursing staff to secure patient safety. You will contribute to teaching and audit activities and help manage workflows in a fast-paced environment. This opportunity offers exposure to a broad range of emergencies in a leading NHS trust with a strong patient-safety focus.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical care to ensure patient safety and safe practice
• Support as a senior doctor for junior staff
• Collaborate with nursing and allied health professionals to maintain high-quality care
• Work under ED consultants and seek guidance as appropriate
• Cover designated ED areas (RAT, Resuscitation, Majors, Minors, Paediatrics) and the ED clinical decision unit
• Maintain CPD and address learning needs guided by directives
• Diagnose, resuscitate and manage emergency patients (self-referred and ambulance)
• Discharge patients to GPs or arrange admissions as needed
• Organise return visits to ENT/TIA and fracture clinics within the trust
• Attend mandatory A&E teaching and audit programme (paid teaching time)

Key requirements

• Full GMC Registration
• MB ChB or equivalent
• Full MRCEM
• Understanding of ALS/ATLS/APLS principles
• 3 years hospital experience at SHO level or above, with at least 12 months in Emergency Medicine
• Good communication skills (written and verbal)
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
