Overview

As Data Privacy Counsel you protect customer and colleague privacy while enabling Tesco Mobile’s strategic aims. You act as Data Protection Officer, delivering practical, commercially-focused guidance and embedding privacy by design across the business. You will lead on complex privacy matters, regulatory engagement, incident handling and governance, and drive privacy capability development including AI governance. This high-impact role spans multiple business areas and requires collaboration with senior stakeholders to shape privacy outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Data Protection Officer, providing expert privacy guidance
• Shape the data protection approach and ensure regulatory compliance
• Lead on complex privacy matters, governance, and incident management
• Drive privacy-related projects and develop privacy capability across the business
• Engage with senior stakeholders and governance forums
• Support emerging areas such as AI governance

Key requirements

• Qualified lawyer with at least five years’ privacy law experience
• Expert knowledge of GDPR, PECR and DUAA
• Proven ability to provide practical, risk-based privacy advice in a commercial environment
• Experience leading significant privacy projects and engaging with senior stakeholders and governance forums
• Strong relationship-building skills and ability to act as a trusted advisor
