Overview

In this role you will lead and develop the Employee Relations (ER) team to provide a cohesive, high-quality ER service across the Trust. You will advise managers on complex ER matters, support policy development, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. You will work closely with People functions and key stakeholders to embed best practice, equality, and KPI delivery. This is a pivotal position for shaping ER support within a large NHS organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee complex ER casework across disciplinary, grievance, attendance, capability and performance matters
  • Provide expert employment legislation and NHS policy guidance to managers
  • Support MHPS and other medical workforce ER matters
  • Develop management capability through training, coaching, and early intervention
  • Build relationships with Trade Union representatives and stakeholders
  • Lead service improvement projects and contribute to ER policies, procedures and guidance
  • Manage and develop the ER team to ensure consistent, high-quality service
  • Ensure integrated working with wider People functions and stakeholders

Key requirements

  • Senior ER operational management experience
  • Experience advising on complex ER matters in line with policy and legislation
  • NHS or public sector ER advisory experience at a senior level
  • Experience with MHPS and medical workforce ER matters
  • Experience managing and developing staff
  • Excellent knowledge of employment law and ER best practice
  • Strong influencing, coaching, and stakeholder management skills
  • Subject matter expert in ER matters
  • Project management experience (desirable)
