Chief Information Security Officer

Overview

As Chief Information Security Officer you will set the information security strategy and oversee cyber risk across FCDO Services. You’ll align security objectives with organisational priorities to enable safe digital transformation and resilience. You’ll lead security and assurance functions, manage risk, and communicate with the Board and Executive team. This role offers the chance to shape security across diverse government-focused programs and high-stakes projects.

Responsibilities

• Set and communicate the Information Security and Cyber Assurance Vision and Strategy
• Lead the Information and Cyber Security functions and drive risk-based security capability
• Own cyber and information security risk across the organisation and enable governance and assurance
• Oversee security for both project/service delivery and live-service monitoring
• Translate security issues into business language for non-specialist audiences
• Drive security across cloud, mobile, and enterprise architectures and align with business risks
• Represent security at the Board/Executive level and brief on security matters
• Deliver Information Security initiatives to protect against vulnerabilities and threats

Key requirements

• Broad, strategic track record in information security/cyber across multiple business areas and complex programs
• Significant technical experience in enterprise architectures, cloud and mobile technologies
• Experience in information risk management frameworks and security governance (e.g., ISO27001)
• Professional qualification such as CISSP, NCSC Certified Professional, or level 6 equivalent; Certified CISO qualifications (CISA, CISM, CRISC)
• Experience in government environments and managing supply chain risks
• Ability to brief senior leadership and translate technical issues for non-technical audiences
