Scotland Correspondent

Overview

As Scotland Correspondent on a nine-month internal secondment, you will deliver exclusive, high-impact Scotland-focused reporting across Guardian platforms. You’ll work with the national news desk to break stories, write features and analyses, and develop digital storytelling that reaches a broad audience. You’ll rely on strong contacts across politics, culture, and society to source original material and collaborate with cross-functional teams. This role suits a journalist who wants to shape coverage on Scotland during a pivotal period and contribute to the Guardian’s mission with rigorous, context-rich storytelling.

Responsibilities

• Produce content for all Guardian platforms (text, multimedia)
• Break exclusive stories and write features, interviews, and analysis focused on Scotland
• Monitor issues across Scotland and collaborate with national editors to develop content
• Keep editors informed of developing stories
• Develop innovative digital storytelling
• Build and maintain contacts to source exclusive material
• Collaborate on projects with correspondents, specialists and departments
• Maintain contacts across politics, culture, and social issues to support reporting

Key requirements

• Excellent knowledge of Scottish politics and wider issues affecting Scotland
• Strong track record of breaking exclusives and feature writing
• Demonstrable reporting experience in digital and print
• Excellent contacts across media and politics
• Preferably NCTJ trained
• Scottish and UK media law knowledge
• Full UK driving licence (desirable)
• Ability to bring diverse perspectives to the role
