Project Engineer (Data Centres & Industrials)

Overview

You will own end-to-end electrical delivery on first-of-a-kind energy projects for data centres and large industrials. You’ll manage the programme, budget, and external parties from concept to energisation, while acting as electrical owner during construction and turnover. The role blends technically deep electrical design with multi-party project management and grid interface responsibilities. You’ll work on innovative private wire, behind-the-meter generation, and MV/HV connections that enable fast, low-cost power. This is a mission-driven opportunity to shape groundbreaking infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Own the programme and development budget from concept to energisation
• Appoint and manage consultants, ICPs and study providers
• Surface and communicate risks to stakeholders
• Develop electrical concept through sign-off including SLDs, switchgear layouts, cable routes, metering and comms
• Direct and review studies (load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, earthing, power quality)
• Chair design reviews and stage gates; present options to Project Lead and customer
• Lead grid interface with DNO/TO/NESO; manage offers, requirements, securities and milestones
• Budget ownership across plant, substation, civils and enabling works; value engineering and optioneering
• Prepare FAT/SAT plans, commissioning sequences, energisation and handover
• Learn and deliver unfamiliar technologies or scopes as needed

Key requirements

• 5+ years delivering energy or infrastructure projects with MV/HV systems
• Real infrastructure experience (substations, networks, data centres, utilities)
• Experience managing programme and budget on development/pre-construction projects
• GB/European grid connection experience from offer to energisation; knowledge of Grid Code, CUSC, SQSS, G99/G100, ENA, BS 7671
• Ability to coordinate multi-discipline design and assess non-expert inputs
• Single point of accountability with external parties; ability to manage without formal authority
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to site
