Band 7 Senior Biomedical Scientist – Specimen Dissection

Overview

In this cross-site Cellular Pathology role, you will join the senior dissection team in histology to support complex specimen dissection and advise on best practice. You will manage staff, resources, and participate in on-call duties, contributing to a busy, high-volume service across multiple sites. You will drive continuous improvement in dissection quality and safety, aligned with IBMS/HPC standards. This role offers leadership development within a large specialist centre and opportunities to advance advanced qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Join the senior dissection team in histology specimen receptions and dissection rooms
• Provide specialist advice to staff and service users
• First-line staff management (rostering, training, development, performance management)
• Materials management and representation at specialist meetings
• Participate in on-call rota and contribute to service delivery
• Undertake self-directed learning as part of a development plan
• Maintain knowledge of health and safety in laboratory procedures
• Support training and development and participate in advanced IBMS qualifications where applicable

Key requirements

• HCPC registration
• Significant post-registration experience in a laboratory discipline
• Dissection room experience with a wide range of specimens
• Knowledge of laboratory health and safety and quality systems
• CPD evidence and adherence to HCPC/IBMS standards
• Experience with quality control/assurance and regulatory accreditation standards (ISO 15189, MHRA)
• Ability to contribute to staff training and supervision
• Prepared to work shifts and on-call duty
