Overview

In this 12-month secondment, you will lead the clinical pharmacy service for the Mental Health Network – community services, reporting to the Chief Pharmacist. You will shape delivery, quality and cost-effective medicines use across multiple settings within the network. You act as a clinical role model, driving safe, effective care and service improvement. This role offers impact at scale within Greater Manchester’s mental health provision and opportunities to influence policy and practice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the clinical pharmacy service and team to deliver high-quality care to wards, teams and services
  • Strategically plan, develop and organise the service in collaboration with lead clinical pharmacists and care hubs
  • Deliver medicines optimisation and monitor agreed outcomes across the network
  • Provide a highly specialist mental health clinical pharmacy service and supervise other pharmacists
  • Manage complex pharmaceutical problems autonomously with limited information
  • Provide training to junior staff, medical and nursing teams
  • Present clinical and strategic issues to the Chief Pharmacist and support business case development

Key requirements

  • Current General Pharmaceutical Council registration
  • Master in Pharmacy (or pre-2000 equivalent)
  • Evidence of CPD and commitment to lifelong learning
  • Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy Practice or Prescribing Sciences, or equivalent
  • Relevant management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience across multiple pharmacy sectors and in leading change
  • Experience in training staff and providing IT/medicines management advice
  • Experience in people management, budgeting and guideline/protocol development
  • Strong stakeholder influence, negotiation and cross-disciplinary collaboration
  • Ability to manage projects from concept to completion
  • Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills
  • Strong analytical and presentation abilities
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Advanced Microsoft Office
  • Prescribing analysis tools knowledge
  • Clinical audit and risk/governance understanding
