Capital Planning Project Manager

Overview

In this role, you manage a portfolio of capital projects across three Trust sites to deliver on time, cost and quality, while complying with statutory and Trust requirements. You will work with clinical, operational and estates colleagues to minimise disruption to patient care and drive safe, efficient project delivery. The position sits in the Capital Planning Team and offers exposure to diverse, high-impact schemes. You will shape briefs, budgets and handovers, contributing to the Trust’s capital programme and estate strategy.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a portfolio of capital projects across all sites with varying size and complexity
• Lead projects from briefing through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover
• Prepare and manage Project Initiation Documents, programmes and cashflows
• Monitor scope, programme, cost and quality; manage changes per governance
• Act as main point of contact for stakeholders, consultants and contractors
• Ensure early engagement with Infection Prevention & Control, Fire Safety, Health & Safety, Digital and Facilities teams
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including CDM Regulations, HTMs, HBNs, Building Safety Act and Trust policies
• Manage external consultants and contractors with performance management
• Prepare reports, risk registers and updates for Project Boards
• Support capital planning including annual programme development and Estates five-year plan
• Ensure commissioning, handover and post-project evaluation and asset information updates
• Be on site a minimum of 3 days a week when required
• Liaise with Operational Estates on scheduling and direct labour
• Develop procurement strategies and manage procurement processes within SFIs
• Produce design and tender documentation and project documentation
• Coordinate commissioning teams and ensure stakeholder ownership of objectives
• Update policies to reflect statutory changes and Trust standards
• Promote energy conservation, sustainability and green policies

Key requirements

• Evidence of successful delivery of projects to scope, time, cost and quality
• Experience in Capital Project management and complex environments
• MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Teams)
• Experience managing construction contractors and external support consultants
• Ability to manage project budgets and cashflow
• Desirable NHS acute sector experience
• Workshop and stakeholder engagement experience
• Ability to work across NHS clinical/operational teams
• Knowledge of NHS information and hospital information systems
• Degree level in building services/construction project management and a professional PM qualification (PRINCE2 or APM)
• Project management experience with change control methodologies
• CDM and Building Safety Act understanding
• UK driving licence for travel between sites
