In this role you will lead and coordinate the discharge of DCO requirements and secondary consents for major infrastructure, ensuring environmental compliance from planning to delivery. You will work on-site with delivery teams, regulators, and stakeholders to translate commitments into practical controls and evidence. The position sits within Ramboll’s UK Environment and Health team, contributing to sustainable infrastructure through effective consenting management. You will influence project schedules, risk management, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to keep works moving in line with consented commitments. Responsibilities
- Lead management of DCO requirements, secondary consents and environmental compliance for projects
- Develop and maintain discharge trackers, consent registers, and evidence bundles; prepare stakeholder briefings and action plans
- Engage regulators, consultees, local authorities, contractors and specialists to resolve consenting issues and maintain programme confidence
- Review environmental permissions (DCOs, TWAOs, permits, licences, CEMPs) and translate commitments into practical controls and checks
- Provide on-site support to contractors and delivery teams, coordinating cross-disciplinary inputs and ensuring robust close-out evidence
- Advise on design, land, methodology and programme changes to embed consenting requirements and mitigation measures
- Contribute to proposals, budgets and delivery plans for consenting and environmental management; mentor junior colleagues
Key requirements
- Experience in DCO requirement discharge and secondary consents
- Experience with environmental permitting and management for infrastructure delivery
- Understanding of UK environmental legislation and consenting processes; experience with authorities like Environment Agency or local authorities
- Experience preparing and managing consent applications, discharge trackers and evidence packs
- Comfortable working on-site with contractors and providing practical compliance advice
- Ability to interpret technical information and communicate clearly in written outputs and stakeholder meetings
- Strong organisational and coordination skills in a programme-driven environment
- Degree-qualified in environmental science, management, planning, geography, engineering or related discipline
- Collaborative and delivery-focused with willingness to spend substantial time on site and travel as required
