Delivery Director – Public Sector

Overview

In this role, you will lead end-to-end delivery of large government IT programmes, with accountability for performance, finances and client outcomes. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to CXO-level stakeholders, shaping strategic delivery across multi-programme portfolios. Expect high-impact governance, risk management and financial stewardship within public sector frameworks. You’ll drive growth through strategic partnerships and cross-functional leadership in a complex, fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead large-scale government technology portfolios (£30m+) with full accountability for delivery, governance, quality and financial outcomes
• Oversee multiple concurrent programmes, ensuring alignment with client strategy and contractual commitments
• Maintain proactive, no-surprises delivery culture with strong forecasting and risk management
• Build and sustain senior-level relationships within government organisations
• Achieve high client satisfaction through consistent delivery and strategic partnership
• Act as senior escalation point to resolve complex commercial and delivery challenges
• Own programme financial performance including budget control, margin management and forecasting
• Manage contractual obligations across public sector contracting models
• Support pre-sales and bid activity with delivery validation and mobilisation readiness
• Lead governance, KPIs, risk/issue/change control, and reporting in line with central government processes

Key requirements

• Proven leadership of complex government programmes and portfolios > £50m
• Experience in large-scale transformation and policy-driven digital services (tax, compliance)
• Extensive CXO-level stakeholder engagement and influence
• Directed distributed, multi-supplier and client-side teams
• Advanced negotiation and conflict resolution capabilities
• Strong commercial acumen including financial modelling and margin management
• Experience across multiple contracting approaches within UK Government procurement
• Practical experience with Agile, Scaled Agile, MSP and hybrid delivery
• Ability to manage ambiguity and risk with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset
• Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC)
