Lead Scrum Master

Overview

In this Lead Scrum Master role, you will champion a high‑performing Scrum/Kanban community within IT & Digital, aligning delivery with our technology vision. You guide and mentor teams, remove impediments, and influence senior stakeholders to enable reliable delivery of digital products. You will define strategies to mature agile practices and act as a trusted SME leader beyond your team. This position offers impact across the organisation and a chance to shape agile culture and delivery excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a resilient, high‑performing team delivering on the technology vision and strategy
• Define and execute SME strategy including roadmaps, innovation and R&D
• Manage team objectives aligned to technology priorities and monitor progress
• Influence senior stakeholders and ensure effective stakeholder engagement within teams
• Support delegated financial/budgetary accountability for the team
• Plan and address training needs to drive performance and competency growth
• Manage relationships with third parties to ensure scoped, on‑time, within‑budget delivery
• Support governance and ensure solutions adhere to architectural strategy and cost considerations
• Embed Agile principles across technology and promote best practices and standards
• Lead SAFe, Scrum and Kanban adoption; facilitate agile ceremonies and reduce impediments
• Embed RAID framework and maintain risk management and delivery compliance
• Foster a culture of trust, learning, and continuous improvement within the delivery community

Key requirements

• Strong leadership and ability to motivate cross‑functional teams
• Strategic thinking with clear product vision and roadmap
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management
• Ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences
• Experience with agile delivery frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe)
• Proven track record building and leading teams (PMO, project management or agile)
• Scrum Master Certification
• Knowledge of the NGED product suite
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
• Commercial awareness and budget handling experience
