Overview
As a Civil Engineer in WSP’s Civil Nuclear team, you’ll lead civil engineering delivery across nuclear lifecycle projects, from new builds to decommissioning. You’ll work within a multidisciplinary group to solve complex infrastructure challenges and support UK nuclear programmes that underpin energy security and net-zero aims. You’ll influence design, risk management, and technical assurance while mentoring teams and shaping project outcomes. - Lead technical delivery of civil engineering projects and multidisciplinary workstreams across nuclear programmes (new build, asset management, decommissioning, SMR/AMR, defence).
- Define civil engineering solutions for site development, roads and access infrastructure, drainage, earthworks, utilities and reinforced concrete/steel structures.
- Provide technical leadership and assurance to meet client requirements, standards, quality, and regulatory obligations.
- Lead feasibility studies, optioneering, site assessments and concept design activities.
- Resolve complex technical challenges and guide project teams, clients and delivery partners.
- Coordinate civil engineering requirements across structural, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical and process disciplines.
- Oversee calculations, specifications, technical reports, design risk assessments and health and safety documentation.
- Build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders as a senior technical contact.
- Support proposals, fee development and work-winning activities.
- Mentor and develop civil engineering teams and contribute to strategic growth of WSP’s Civil Nuclear business.
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE).
- Experience delivering civil engineering projects across the nuclear asset lifecycle (new build, operations, decommissioning, waste management, environmental remediation) including SMR/AMR exposure.
- Experience leading design and delivery of civil solutions (site development, earthworks, drainage, highways, utilities, reinforced concrete).
- Strong understanding of design codes and standards (British Standards, Eurocodes, nuclear-specific standards).
- Experience leading feasibility, optioneering, concept and detailed design activities.
- Ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams on complex projects.
- Knowledge of design risk management, CDM Regulations and safe-by-design principles, with experience applying HSE requirements across lifecycle.
