About the Client:
An established, independent department store group with a strong presence across Greater London and Newbury. The business operates seven stores alongside an ecommerce platform, combining a rich retail heritage with a commercially focused approach to modern department store trading.
The Role:
We are recruiting a Senior Merchandiser to lead the commercial planning and trading strategy across designated product categories. Reporting to the Head of Merchandising, you will be responsible for driving sales and profitability, optimising stock levels and ensuring the right products are available across the store portfolio and digital channels.
You will combine strong commercial analysis, forecasting and trading skills with effective cross-functional collaboration, working closely with Buying, Finance, Marketing and Store Operations teams to maximise performance across a £100m+ retail business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning & Trading: Develop seasonal and annual merchandise financial plans, manage OTB budgets and forecasts, and monitor weekly sales, margin and stock performance to identify opportunities and risks.
- Range & Stock Management: Manage stock allocation, replenishment and intake flow across multiple locations to improve availability, sell-through and stock productivity while minimising markdown and aged stock.
- Commercial Analysis: Analyse historical performance, market trends and customer behaviour to provide actionable insights and influence range planning, pricing, promotional and markdown decisions.
- In-Season Trading: Own in-season trading performance, proactively react to weekly results and reforecast sales and intake based on performance trends and market conditions.
