Overview

As Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead intricate mechanical design work for life sciences and healthcare projects, guiding junior engineers and managing key stakeholder relationships. You will typically act as the senior engineer on projects, coordinating with electrical teams and delivering Stage 3–4 detailed designs. Your expertise with Revit and allied CAD tools will drive efficient, survey-driven building services design. The role offers strong progression toward Associate/Team Manager and a chance to shape high-profile projects within a renowned practice.

Responsibilities

• Lead project delivery on Stage 3–4 mechanical design and reporting
• Mentor and develop junior engineers
• Manage key stakeholder relationships on projects
• Coordinate with electrical engineering team to deliver integrated designs
• Conduct surveying of mechanical building services systems
• On-board and engage with clients, operating with minimal supervision
• Support business growth in life sciences and healthcare sectors

Key requirements

• 8+ years in Mechanical Building Services Design
• Experience in life sciences or critical systems (e.g., data centres)
• Chartered Engineer status
• Client-facing experience
• Comfort working with minimal supervision
• Proficiency with REVIT; Hevacomp experience is ideal
• CAD proficiency
• Degree-level education in engineering (implied)
