Overview
In this role you will underwrite and manage a renewal book while producing new business within delegated authority. You will develop underwriting strategies, assess risks, and manage exposure to support the business plan and profitability. You’ll build broker and client relationships, mentor peers, and drive product development opportunities. The position blends technical excellence with stakeholder engagement across cross-border portfolios and industry events, contributing to AXA XL’s risk expertise and growth.

Responsibilities
- Underwrite and service renewals and new business in line with business unit goals
- Develop and manage underwriting strategies for renewals and portfolio accounts
- Exercise discretion in risk analysis and evaluation
- Participate in risk assessment discussions and mentor peers
- Negotiate with producers within delegated authority to achieve profit objectives
- Build and maintain relationships with brokers and clients; establish new distribution channels
- Maintain product/priority knowledge to uncover hidden risks for clients
- Assist with portfolio development for overseas offices (Cologne, Hamburg, Madrid, Zurich, Paris, Singapore)
- Promote AXA XL expertise through industry conferences and leadership in client/broker meetings
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, legal requirements, and internal controls
- Support business planning and forecasting; monitor financial exposure and premium income within limits
- Maintain awareness of advised claims and contribute to settlement discussions
- Identify and drive new product development opportunities; cross-market with AXA XL lines
- Provide guidance to junior underwriters and peers; report to the Underwriting Manager, Contingency
Key requirements
- Advanced technical underwriting knowledge in Contingency insurance
- Ability to apply business understanding to set direction within the segment
