Senior Site Engineer

Overview

In this Senior Site Engineer role, you drive technical leadership for on-site delivery of Solar PV and BESS projects across the UK. You’ll coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractor interfaces, and on-site engineering activities through construction, commissioning, and handover. You ensure safety, quality, and compliance while aligning with project milestones and UK standards. This is a hands-on leadership position within the M Renewables division, shaping successful delivery of large-scale renewable energy assets.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site technical leadership from construction through commissioning and handover
• Coordinate daily site activities across civil, electrical, and mechanical streams
• Act as technical point of contact for subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders
• Review and approve drawings, specs, method statements, ITPs, and construction deliverables
• Monitor activities against design, programme, specs, and UK standards
• Own site engineering issues, manage RFIs, design clarifications, non-conformances, and corrective actions
• Track progress against milestones and support mitigation planning
• Coordinate sequencing of civil, electrical, mechanical, and commissioning workstreams
• Lead site inspections, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover activities
• Ensure works meet approved designs, quality requirements, and project specs
• Work with QA/QC and HSE to maintain safety, quality, and environmental standards
• Review risk assessments, RAMS, permits to work, and construction control docs
• Identify risks and develop practical, cost-effective solutions
• Maintain comprehensive site records (daily reports, progress, RFIs, NCRs, as-builts)
• Support subcontractor deliverables acceptance and technical workshops
• Provide input to construction planning, resource needs, and look-ahead programmes
• Support technical assessments, progress reporting, and risk management
• Promote safety-first culture and compliance with UK HSE regulations
• Share lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement across projects

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• 5+ years of site engineering or construction experience, preferably in renewables or large-scale projects
• Proven experience in a Senior/Lead Site Engineer or equivalent role
• Delivery experience of large-scale Solar PV and/or BESS projects
• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary interfaces and construction methods
• Lead/co-ordinate site engineering activities and subcontractors
• Knowledge of QA/QC, inspection and testing, NCRs, ITPs, and quality standards
• UK HSE knowledge, RAMS, permits to work, and safe systems of work
• Ability to identify and resolve technical and interface issues quickly
• Experience with construction planning, progress monitoring, and milestone coordination
• Understanding of engineering, construction, procurement, commissioning, and handover interfaces
• Excellent communication, leadership, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and make decisions under pressure
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple workstreams and sites
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with project management/engineering software
• Full UK driving license and willingness to travel across UK project sites
