Senior Underwriter, London Wholesale Property (North America)

Overview

As an experienced Underwriter in the London Wholesale property group, you will manage North American Property risk within delegated authorities, balancing portfolio profitability with technical underwriting. You will engage brokers and coverholders, lead client and broker meetings, and contribute to planning and risk positioning. The role combines rigorous analysis with relationship-building in a sustainability-minded, collaborative culture. You’ll shape risk selection and profitability while supporting cross-group initiatives and growth.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and service renewals, and produce new business aligned with unit goals
• Negotiate within delegated authority to achieve profit objectives
• Represent the company at industry conferences and lead client/broker meetings
• Support business planning and forecasting; monitor financial exposure and premium income
• Monitor claims activity and provide input on settlements
• Underwrite within Group rules and guidelines
• Engage with brokers to grow relationships and secure new business
• Be accountable for underwriting results and contribute to overall strategy and financial planning
• Collaborate with AXA XL colleagues across groups and pursue cross-selling where appropriate

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• A technical underwriting background in North American Property and Delegated authorities
• Analytical skills: gather, articulate, analyze and solve complex problems
• Industry knowledge of insurance products and underwriting impact
• Adaptability to changing environments with innovation
• Ability to work independently
