A commercial career often starts with one simple ability: helping another person understand why an opportunity may be relevant to them. The strongest professionals build from there. They learn how to listen, explain value, handle uncertainty, follow through and use evidence to improve. This position offers a practical starting point for someone ready to turn communication skills into measurable business development experience.
Sage is looking for an ambitious, grounded person who enjoys working with people and wants their progress to be visible. Previous business development experience is helpful but not essential. Customer service, hospitality, retail, events, administration, sport or volunteering can all provide relevant evidence when they show initiative, resilience and reliable communication.
This full-time, on-site appointment follows a Monday-to-Friday working week. Guaranteed pay is starts at £25,000, with performance-based incentives. Expected total on-target earnings are £600 to £800 per week, including the guaranteed base.
Learn the commercial proposition
You will begin by learning an assigned campaign in detail. This includes the service, the intended customer, the approved information and the standards Sage is expected to maintain. Good business development depends on accuracy. You should be able to explain an offer clearly, answer within your knowledge and seek support when a question requires confirmation.
Create and develop opportunities
Your daily work will involve starting conversations with prospective customers and identifying genuine interest. You will build rapport without becoming overfamiliar, maintain energy when an interaction is brief and remain composed when the answer is no.
Where a customer chooses to continue, you will support the agreed next steps and complete the required records. Accurate administration matters because a positive conversation has little commercial value if information is incomplete or the next action is missed.
Core responsibilities include:
- Preparing current campaign information before activity begins.
- Engaging prospective customers through confident in-person communication.
- Identifying needs and explaining the relevant service accurately.
- Working towards agreed activity, quality and conversion measures.
- Recording outcomes and completing follow-up actions on time.
- Sharing recurring customer questions with the campaign team.
- Applying coaching to one specific area of performance at a time.
Turn results into better judgement
You will review straightforward performance information with support. Activity shows whether enough relevant conversations are taking place. Conversion indicates how often suitable interest becomes a completed outcome. Quality checks confirm whether the process and information were handled correctly.
These measures work together. High activity with weak conversion may suggest that qualification or explanation needs attention. Strong outcomes with poor records create avoidable risk. Reviews will help you identify a precise adjustment, apply it consistently and assess the result rather than changing your approach without evidence.
Build a wider business contribution
Once you demonstrate dependable personal performance, your involvement may expand. You could contribute customer insight during campaign reviews, support preparation for a team briefing or help a newer colleague understand an approved process. You may also gain exposure to the way campaign information supports client updates and future planning.
Additional responsibility depends on consistent results, sound conduct and business need. There is no automatic promotion timetable. The value of the role is the chance to build a credible record of commercial performance, communication and follow-through.
