Senior Commercial Underwriter – Belfast

We are hiring for our client, a well-established commercial insurance provider, to recruit an experienced Commercial Underwriter for their Belfast office. In this role, you will support the profitable development of the SME/Mid-Market account by underwriting a range of commercial risks, managing both renewals and new business while building strong relationships with brokers.

The Role:

• Underwrite commercial risks within agreed processes and risk appetites.
• Negotiate renewals, quotations, and handle ad‑hoc enquiries with brokers.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers to support new business development and retention.
• Provide tailored insurance solutions while managing cases to ensure profitable outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements.
• Contribute to high standards of customer satisfaction by delivering efficient and accurate responses.
• Develop and maintain good internal relationships to support team and customer deliverables.

The Person:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial insurance.
• Strong technical knowledge across a range of commercial insurance products.
• Results-driven, with excellent negotiation skills and a client-focused approach.
• Able to work to tight deadlines and deliver high-quality results.
• Strong working knowledge of most commercial classes of business and associated insurance products.
• Proficient in IT (Excel and other platforms).
• Highly motivated and proactive, with a keen attention to detail.

Desirable:

• Cert CII (or working towards it).
