Production Operative
7 Steel UK – Cardiff
12 hour shifts,
(4 on/4 off Shifts)
2 days 7am -7pm& 2 nights 7pm to 7am
£29,679.45Salary increase to£31,175.01after 6 monthsbased on demonstrated technical ability and successful completion of probation at 7 Steel UK.
As a Control Panel Operator, you’ll play a key role in the day to day running of a £400m steel rolling mill. You’ll be responsible for monitoring and controlling the rolling process from the control room, ensuring production remains safe, consistent and efficient.
A large part of the role involves sitting at the control panel for extended periods, monitoring multiple screens, analysing process data and maintaining focus even when changes are minimal. The work can be repetitive, so youll need to be comfortable staying alert and switched on throughout. Youll be expected to spot anything unusual early and think ahead to prevent issues before they escalate. When faults or process issues do arise, the pace shifts and youll need to work closely with the team to respond quickly, make clear decisions and keep things running safely. At times, this will also involve getting hands on out on the mill floor to support with resolving issues.
No previous steel industry experience is required, as full training will be provided. This role will suit someone who is comfortable with routine monitoring but can step up when needed whilst also remaining calm, focused and decisive under pressure. Youll need to move between steady observation and more demanding situations where clear thinking and communication are essential.
