Technical Project Manager

Overview

In this role you steer complex R&D programmes at a VC-backed hardware startup, aligning engineering and external partners to keep initiatives moving. You translate technical plans into actionable delivery with clear governance and reporting. You collaborate across technical, commercial, and leadership audiences to manage risks and priorities in a fast-growing environment. Responsibilities

• Lead complex R&D programmes across engineering teams and external partners
• Maintain project plans, milestones, RAID logs and delivery schedules
• Support grant-funded programme reporting, monitoring meetings and compliance
• Coordinate relationships with foundries, commercial partners and research organisations
• Provide updates to investors and leadership on programme status
• Manage dependencies, risks and changing priorities in a fast-moving startup

Key requirements

• Experience managing technically complex hardware or deep-tech projects
• Background in VC-backed startups, scale-ups or advanced R&D environments
• Familiarity with grant-funded programmes and structured reporting
• Strong communication across technical and commercial teams
• Understanding of semiconductor, photonics or foundry-driven development is advantageous
• Formal project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or similar
