Project Civil Engineer

Overview

As a Project Civil Engineer, you will contribute to the delivery of civil and infrastructure designs from feasibility through to delivery. You will work within the Exeter team, collaborating with senior engineers and partners to manage information for clients and design teams. The role covers drainage design, site development, and flood risk strategies across diverse sectors. You will engage with external authorities and manage subconsultants to ensure compliant, deliverable designs. This is a hands-on, multidisciplinary engineering role with Chartered-leaning development support.

Responsibilities

• Produce and manage civil and infrastructure designs and associated drawings, reports and specifications
• Develop surface water and foul water drainage designs including SuDS, pumping stations and treatment solutions
• Create levels strategies, external works packages and pavement design considerations
• Develop flood risk strategies and drainage approaches for sites with complex flood exposure from pre-acquisition to delivery
• Prepare Flood Risk Assessments, Flood Evacuation Plans and drainage strategies for planning and pre-apps
• Liaise with statutory authorities, water/utilities companies; procure/manage subcontractors for surveys and modelling
• Undertake site visits and surveys and prepare technical reports and notes
• Assist in CDM risk assessment and production of project specifications/method statements
• Produce engineering models, designs, drawings, reports and specifications
• Contribute to pre-application discussions and planning applications
• Collaborate with other design team members (urban designers, engineers) on external works and long-section analyses

Key requirements

• Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with Civil 3D and InfoDrainage preferred
• Experience in civil/highways and drainage design in line with relevant Codes of Practice
• Knowledge of CDM Regulations and risk management in design
• Commercial awareness and understanding of professional responsibilities and insurances
• Good working knowledge of regulations and guidance (Manual for Streets, Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Sewers for Adoption)
