Software Development Engineer III (Java) – Quote API – London, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Overview

In this role you will design, implement, and maintain a high-availability Pricing/Quote API supporting Tesco’s channels at scale. You’ll work within a cross-functional team to translate requirements into robust Java-based software and infrastructure, collaborating closely with product stakeholders. You will drive quality through TDD/BDD and SOLID design, while mentoring peers and contributing to a culture of continuous learning. This position offers an opportunity to influence pricing and promotions at a large, globally oriented retailer.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement end-to-end systems using JVM and Java ecosystem
• Translate product requirements into maintainable code
• Write test-driven features following TDD/BDD
• Apply SOLID principles for scalable software
• Design, build, deploy and maintain required infrastructure
• Collaborate with product stakeholders to shape features
• Support production systems, resolve incidents, perform root cause analysis
• Mentor engineers and share knowledge
• Prototype and evaluate new tools and technologies

Key requirements

• Java 8+ experience
• Cloud platform experience (Azure, AWS)
• SQL and NoSQL database proficiency
• Proven ability to scale systems
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall)
• Exposure to reactive programming
