Overview

In this Senior Mechanical Designer role, you lead delivery of robust, compliant building services designs for education-sector projects across the North West. You work closely with cross-functional teams to shape designs for new builds, refurbishments, and government-funded schemes. You act as a technical lead and client-facing point of contact, driving continuous improvement in design processes. Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design delivery across multidisciplinary projects
• Produce and review mechanical designs, specifications, calculations, and reports
• Undertake condition, asset, and life cycle surveys with costed recommendations
• Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, H&S standards
• Support workload planning and resourcing
• Contribute to government-funded programmes and major project delivery
• Act as a key technical contact for clients
• Support junior engineers and technicians
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement across design processes
• Assist with framework submissions and bid documentation
• Strengthen client relationships and support repeat business

Key requirements

• HNC/HND or BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering
• Strong background in mechanical building services design
• Experience within a consultancy or Contractor
• Ideally, experience working within the Public Sector / Education Sector
• Confident communicator with strong client-facing skills
• Analytical, proactive problem-solver
• Ability to lead and coordinate mechanical design on complex projects
• Experience conducting mechanical condition surveys
• Enhanced DBS required
