Overview

As a Senior Software Developer at Tesco, you will own the end-to-end development and support of software that powers Tesco’s payments ecosystem. You will lead on design and architecture while mentoring teammates, delivering value through high-impact, business-critical systems. You’ll work with a stack including .NET/C#, Java, and cloud tools to build scalable APIs and payment workflows. This role emphasizes automation, testing, and a proven DevOps mindset to drive reliable, large-scale payments. You will operate within a collaborative, innovation-driven environment that values practical impact and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement scalable frontend/back-end systems using .NET/C# and/or Java
• Produce test-driven features and apply the TDD cycle
• Apply software design principles to create maintainable architectures
• Collaborate with product stakeholders to translate needs into improvements
• Break down work for incremental delivery and risk management on large projects
• Lead design discussions and work with Product Managers to drive value
• Support production systems, resolve incidents, and learn from them
• Share knowledge with the engineering community and mentor others
• Create proofs of concept to evaluate new tools

Key requirements

• Experience with .Net/C# and/or Java
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.)
• Experience in agile environments and TDD
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Experience with ecommerce payment systems is a plus but not required
