Quantity Surveyor

Overview

As a Quantity Surveyor in our West Yorkshire rail civil team, you will manage commercial aspects of railway and civil projects from 300k to 2.5M. You’ll maintain client relationships, monitor costs and budgets, and prepare financial reports for the Senior QS and Commercial Manager. You’ll ensure contract compliance and oversee subcontract and supplier procurement and final accounts. This fast-paced role suits a proactive professional who communicates clearly and drives project performance. You will contribute to delivering high-quality rail infrastructure with strong commercial discipline.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain client relationships through regular contact and meetings
• Monitor contract costs against budgets and ensure compliance with statutory requirements
• Provide commercial information and reports (CVRs, valuations, cash flow) to Senior QS and Commercial Manager
• Identify financial risks and evaluate mitigation options
• Produce, submit and agree final accounts per contract requirements
• Coordinate procurement and placement of subcontract and supplier orders with Supply Chain
• Oversee certification of contract payments/variations and settle final accounts with sub-contractors

Key requirements

• BSc Quantity Surveying (or similar) – Essential
• 2–3 years’ experience in a contracting environment – Essential
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision – Essential
• General knowledge of NEC forms of contract – Desirable
• Experience in Civil Engineering within the Rail sector – Desirable
• Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement
• Ability to manage high-volume, fast-paced order turnover and maintain quality
