Senior Quantity Surveyor | Residential & Student accommodation projects | London

Overview

As Senior Quantity Surveyor for a London-based main contractor, you will lead commercial management on large residential and student accommodation projects, ensuring robust budgeting, cost control, and effective client liaison. You will oversee the commercial function, mentor junior surveyors, and coordinate with design teams, procurement, and site operations to deliver accurate cost reporting and successful final accounts. The role combines tender analysis, subcontractor management, and progress reporting to drive project performance. This is a chance to shape outcomes on high-profile developments within a reputable contractor.

Responsibilities

• Liaising with Commercial Director and MD; reporting on project status
• Developing client relationships and coordinating with design teams
• Attend site meetings and keep QS Director informed of progress and issues
• Reviewing tender enquiries and tender analysis; estimating with HQ QS staff
• Negotiating with subcontractors and organising pre-award meetings
• Subcontract purchasing and monitoring on site; manage variations and payment certificates
• Prepare final accounts and manage cost reporting and cashflow forecasting
• Mentor intermediate and junior QS staff and provide leadership
• Maintain awareness of industry changes and market conditions
• Perform other duties as assigned

Key requirements

• Degree in Quantity Surveying
• Minimum 7 years of experience with subcontractors and clients
• Strong understanding of specifications, BOQs, drawings
• Ability to extract quantities and issue enquiries for quotations
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and QS software
• Excellent budgetary responsibility and reporting skills
• Strong communication and organisational abilities
