Lead Construction Engineer – Electrical

Overview

As Electrical Lead on a Teesside EPC project, you oversee all electrical construction activities, ensuring safety, quality, and readiness from installation through handover. You will coordinate with EPC and PCC teams, drive build‑it‑tight and build‑it‑clean standards, and lead readiness and completion activities toward mechanical completion. The role combines site leadership with multi‑disciplinary collaboration to deliver a safe, compliant electrical installation on a large-scale project. You will engage with international design offices as needed and report on technical and schedule performance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee electrical construction activities by EPC and PCC Contractors
• Lead health, safety, quality, and constructability on site
• Manage installation of electrical equipment, cabling, testing, and energisation
• Coordinate with EPC Electrical Leads, equipment leads, SIP lead, Pre‑Commissioning and Commissioning Leads
• Ensure compliance with client/project specifications and safety standards
• Manage handover through to mechanical completion and client handover
• Drive build it tight/build it clean discipline and contractor compliance
• Monitor and report contractor progress and quality; raise NCRs when needed
• Coordinate with HSE for lifting, testing, and energisation procedures
• Support planning, documentation, and system readiness for commissioning
• Participate in walkdowns, punch lists, and completion activities
• Ensure discipline handover dossiers meet project requirements
• Identify equipment risks and share lessons learned
• Collaborate with other discipline leads for seamless integration
• Lead field execution oversight from installation to handover

Key requirements

• Demonstrable experience in a similar role on large EPC projects overseeing electrical installation
• Experience with switchgear, transformers, distribution panels, UPS, generators, system protection, fire and gas, containment, cabling, preservation, punch out, walkdown, turnover and handover
• Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage construction planning and execution to safety and quality standards
• HNC or higher in Electrical Engineering or related discipline preferred (time-served considered)
• Strong coordination with engineering teams and site contractors
• Experience with commissioning and pre‑commissioning activities
• Ability to review proposals, method statements, and construction work packs for electrical activities
• Experience in safety and quality assurance, and NCR/tQ/change management
• Ability to monitor contractor performance and enforce schedule adherence
• Willingness to travel to EPC design offices if required
