Security Automation Software Engineer

Overview

In this role you will design and build scalable security automation to detect and respond to threats across G-Research’s hybrid HPC, Azure, and AWS environments. You’ll contribute to a rising SAE platform that speeds up security operations, reduce manual effort, and bolster cyber resilience. You collaborate with CSIRT and security colleagues to integrate data from defense tools, delivering production-quality automation. This is a hands-on engineering role at the intersection of software and security, ideal for shaping defense capabilities at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain automated detection and response systems across hybrid environments (HPC, Azure, AWS)
• Develop high-quality Python code with secure engineering practices
• Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, ArgoCD)
• Collaborate with CSIRT and security teams to integrate data and automation from Azure Defender XDR, AWS Security Hub, and Elastic Security
• Participate in code reviews to uphold quality, maintainability and security
• Contribute to architectural discussions and design reviews
• Monitor system performance and reliability, identifying opportunities for operational improvement
• Work with stakeholders to understand automation requirements and deliver robust, scalable solutions
• Continuously improve development processes, documentation and engineering standards within the team

Key requirements

• Strong Python development skills with secure software engineering and automation in complex environments
• Production systems experience in AWS or Azure
• Familiarity with DevOps and infrastructure automation tooling (Jenkins, ArgoCD, Terraform, Ansible)
• Exposure to security operations tooling (SIEM/XDR/SOAR) such as Microsoft Sentinel, Elastic Security, AWS Security Hub
• Experience in agile delivery teams and collaborating with diverse technical stakeholders
• Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for building clean, maintainable, scalable systems
