Refrigeration Service Engineer

Overview

In this role you will maintain, repair and commission commercial refrigeration systems across UK retail sites, ensuring reliability and safety. You will work with cross-site teams to keep refrigeration assets performing optimally and to support store operations. The role combines hands-on diagnostics with on-site customer service and on-call availability, contributing to the broader mission of reliable, compliant facilities management. This opportunity offers exposure to a range of equipment and brands within a global real estate services context.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned preventive maintenance, reactive callouts and emergency repairs on commercial refrigeration equipment (remote packs, condensing units, cold rooms, chillers, freezers, display cabinets, HVAC/refrigeration hybrids)
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults in refrigeration systems
• Install and commission new refrigeration equipment and systems
• Ensure compliance with F-Gas regulations, health & safety standards and company procedures
• Maintain accurate service records and documentation via digital job management systems
• Provide on-site customer service and liaise with store managers and head office
• Participate in an on-call rota for out-of-hours support
• Maintain company vehicle, tools and equipment in good condition

Key requirements

• F-Gas certification (Category 1) – essential
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning
• Knowledge of CO₂ refrigeration systems (transcritical/subcritical)
• Full UK driving licence
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in commercial refrigeration
• Experience with retail refrigeration systems preferred
• Familiarity with major brands (SCM, Hussmann, AHT)
