Fire Safety Officer

Overview

As Fire Safety Officer, you will drive governance and safety improvements by leading fire risk assessments and inspections. You will act as the fire safety expert across estates, advising colleagues and contractors while coordinating with the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. Your work supports safeguarding premises and delivering the organization’s strategic priorities through compliant, proactive safety management. You will influence behaviours and ensure timely actions to keep communities and customers safe. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to shape fire safety practices across the business.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) across premises
• Perform detailed fire safety surveys of passive and active measures
• Review and desktop-check Fire Risk Assessment program and inspections
• Provide technical fire safety advice to colleagues and contractors
• Liaise with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Business Safety team
• Address issues raised by the Fire Service promptly
• Oversee contractor quality and delivery of fire safety works
• Lead education and influence at customer engagement events
• Oversee fire door inspection programme and inspections as needed
• Carry out post-fire inspections and report findings to Head of Assurance and Health & Safety
• Collaborate across estates with internal and external teams

Key requirements

• Knowledge of Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Building Regulations – Approved Document B
• Knowledge of BS 5839, BS 5266, BS 5306, BS 9251, BS 9999
• Experience with Fire Risk Assessment process including passive protection works
• Five years’ experience in fire safety or related field
• Graduate/Master level professional or equivalent (IFSM, IFE EG/Grad)
• Confident, clear communicator with ability to influence diverse audiences
• Proven ability to work to deadlines and manage competing demands
• Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
