Local Government & Public Sector Legal Director

Overview

In this role you will lead and advise on government and public sector matters within a growing international law firm in Birmingham. You will handle high-profile public procurement, subsidy control, grant funding and commercial contracts work for government, local authorities and private clients. You’ll build trusted relationships, manage complex matters, and help grow the Government & Public Sector offering. The position combines senior client work with leadership and business development opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Advise on public procurement, subsidy control, grant funding and commercial contracts for public and private sector clients
• Draft and negotiate complex procurement documentation and agreements
• Provide commercially focused guidance on high-profile public sector projects and regeneration
• Maintain significant client contact and collaborate with Partners and the wider national Commercial team
• Contribute to business development and development of the firm’s Government & Public Sector offering

Key requirements

• Qualified solicitor with strong experience in public sector and commercial matters (public procurement, grant funding, subsidy control)
• Strong drafting and negotiation skills
• Commercially minded with ability to align client objectives
• Excellent client relationship and communication abilities
• Ability to manage complex matters and deadlines
• Interest in business development and client relationship growth
• Collaborative team player with experience in a national team
• In-house public sector experience advantageous but not essential
