Overview
In this bank-based dispensing role, you support two GP practices by handling prescriptions and dispensing medicines. You work as part of a larger dispensary team, delivering friendly, professional service to patients while ensuring safe, compliant practice. You adapt to ad-hoc duties across sites and respond to prescription requests and drug alerts with accuracy. You help maintain stock, records, and temperature controls, contributing to reliable patient care. This role offers meaningful impact through high-quality, patient-focused pharmaceutical support within primary care.
Responsibilities
- Dispense medicines and appliances following SOPs; verify dosage and labeling with a GP when needed
- Endorse prescriptions per NHS Prescription Services requirements
- Keep up-to-date with new drugs and legislation
- Complete and manage significant event forms with colleagues
- Liaise with patients to promote adherence and provide guidance
- Forward invoices and related correspondence to the practice manager
- Respond to drug alerts and ensure prompt action
- Answer telephone and process prescription requests
- Issue prepared prescriptions and process prescription requests
- Maintain stock control to ensure continuity and minimise wastage
- Ensure correct storage and temperature control for refrigerated items; log temperature
- Clean work surfaces and equipment; maintain clean dispensary
- Maintain full records of all dispensing transactions and records sent to community pharmacies
- Process email (online) prescription requests
- Collect prescription charges and manage FP10 patient declarations and payments
- Receipts monies and maintain financial records on behalf of the Practice
- Provide efficient home delivery service where requested
- Maintain accurate computerised dispensing records
Key requirements
- NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing (or equivalent)
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Experience in a dispensary, pharmacy, or healthcare environment
- Experience handling confidential patient information
- Full driving licence with access to a vehicle
